Last week, some of our top year 9 scientists attended the Big Bang Fair at the NEC, Birmingham. The event is the biggest celebration of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) for young people in the UK. The aim of the programme and the event is to introduce students to the opportunities that STEM can bring them. The organisers work closely with the media to help more young people understand that studying STEM subjects can open up a whole range of exciting and rewarding career opportunities.
Olivia enjoyed trying to get the best time on the RAF airship challenge and said, “I really enjoyed the day and loved trying on the kit. I did not realise how good it would be and would certainly come again. There were so many jobs that you could do with STEM and the exhibition stands were amazing”.
Students Sam and Nathan were amazed by the robotic stands. Sam commnted, “there were so many careers available to you from studying STEM subjects. What really made the day fantastic was the ‘Do this at home” science show which had lots of fire and special effects.”
