Student artwork brightens up Darlison Court

Students visit Darlison Court, HucknallIn June 2017, the academy was approached by Ashfield Homes to ask if our students could support a project to provide artwork to brighten up the walls of Darlison Court in Hucknall, a community of apartments for the over-60s.

A number of year 10 (now year 11) students volunteered to get involved and were keen to display their artistic talents and support the local residents. These talented students gave their time and energy to the project, giving up lunchtimes and working after the academy day on some superb pieces of artwork.

Miss Dalby, who led the project for National said, “We were pleased to be invited to support this project, and naturally agreed to help. The academy tries to encourage students to get involved with their community as part of their personal development - this was a chance to demonstrate the wealth of talent amongst our students and the key values we instil into every individual at National.”

The finished canvasses were installed at the end of July, and the students involved were delighted to be invited by Ashfield Homes yesterday to see their work proudly displayed on the walls – every single one looks superb and everyone involved was pleased to have been given this fabulous opportunity. It was also great to meet with some of the residents of Darlison Court and see how pleased they are with the finished pictures.

Well done to everyone involved especially our students, Miss Dalby and Mr Govinden, who is sadly no longer working at the academy.
