Successful sporting week for National

17th November 2017

Year 8 rugbyA number of talented students from National were celebrating this week as they enjoyed a fabulous sporting triple success.

On Wednesday four of our students were selected to play rugby in the Ashfield district schools team, playing Mansfield school team on the first-team pitch at Mansfield Rugby Club. The four National players acquitted themselves very well with Harvey C, Scott, Rohan, and Harvey L, (left to right in the picture) helping the Ashfield team to a victory by 8 tries to 2.

Rohan particularly impressed, taking charge of the Ashfield team, organising their lines, getting them set into position and being a great positive role model to other players. This was a fantastic opportunity for the boys, who were all brilliant!

Girls under14 football teamJust a couple of days earlier, the girls under14s football team carried on their brilliant season with yet another victory, this time over Rushcliffe School. After taking an early lead and then being pegged back to level terms just before half-time, the team dug deep in the second half with a late winner from the National girls coming via the boot of the prolific Millie! The girls now go through to the quarter finals of the Notts Schools competition, and have some great momentum going into their upcoming matches.

Finishing off a week of success was our under13s girls football team. Many of the girls who featured in Monday’s under14s game again laced up their boots yesterday to take part in a fourth round tie in the English Schools competition, facing St George’s Academy in Sleaford.

Once again, a great collaborative effort and team ethos contributed to the girls taking an early lead through a superbly taken penalty, with the lead extended just before half time. The team continued pressing hard in the second half with their hard work resulting in another two goals (which could have been more if the woodwork hadn’t intervened twice!) and a stunning 4-0 victory.

Well done to all involved and to our PE team for their ongoing support and guidance.
