Summer Soiree showcases student talent

7th July 2017

Summer Soiree 2017On Tuesday 20th June 2017 our Summer Soirée, one of the highlights of the National calendar, was held at the academy. This event showcases the amazing array of musical talent amongst our students, with the main focus of the evening to highlight the skills of the year 10 GCSE musicians. Each of these students performed either a solo or ensemble piece with every single one of the giving a stunning performance, emphasising their hard work and dedication to practice.

The Soirée also showcased the many ensembles on offer at the academy. The GLEE club opened the concert, followed by musicians in both key stages 3 and 4. Cadence, our vocal harmony group, closed the concert, with a beautiful rendition of Oasis, Beyonce and Coldplay songs. There was not a dry eye in the house at the end, and we make no apologies for posting the full video below – simply amazing voices and a beautiful arrangement of each song.

Mrs Thornton, head of music who is sadly leaving the academy this summer, said of the event, “This Summer Soiree was my last concert at National and I would like to take this opportunity to say a special 'thank you' to all those parents, staff and students for your support with the concert series over the years. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of the talented young musicians at the National C of E Academy. I have very much enjoyed seeing the students develop in confidence and to see the ensembles grow and develop like they have. I am already looking forward to coming back next year and seeing all the friendly faces again.”

Congratulations to all of our students on their performances, to our staff for their hard work and support, and to our parents and community who joined us for the concert.
