Superb season start for our footballers

6th October 2017

Year 8 and 9 football teamOver the past few weeks, the football season has started in earnest for a number of the teams within National Church of England Academy and the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre.

At the end of September our year 7 girls football team kicked this off with their first match of the new season. Playing in the first round of the English Schools competition against Christ the King Academy the girls put in a thoroughly dominant performance and emerged victorious with a stunning 10-0 win.

Miss Hall, PE teacher at the academy, said of the result, “I am immensely proud of all of the team. It was the perfect start to the season, and I look forward to seeing this group of players develop together as a team.”

Following hot on the heels of this success, this week our combined year 8 and 9 girls team was in action in the first round of the Notts Schools under-14 cup with the ladies facing Quarrydale Academy. An astonishing display of football led to the girls taking a quick lead and never looking back, smashing in 10 goals without reply in the first half. A further seven strikes from a strong National team saw the game finish an impressive 17-0, meaning the girls cruise into the next round.

Another team in action was the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre team, who have started the season with a 100% record in their two matches so far. The boys hammered Kimberley 9-1 in the County Cup, before progressing in the English Schools Cup against Highlands from Matlock, winning in the lottery of a penalty shoot-out after drawing 2-2 in regular time.

Well done to everyone involved in all of our squads – a superb start to the season. We are excited about the talent in all of our squads and look forward to seeing them develop together.
