Thought for the week - Easter

23rd March 2018

Thought for the week - EasterBible passage: John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.  Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?””

Easter is the crowning celebration of the Christian calendar- a constant reminder of the foundations upon which the Christian faith is based. Richard Rohr provides a refreshing insight on a topic that is seemingly familiar and yet easily misunderstood. He says, “If you can understand Jesus as the human archetype, a stand-in for everybody and everything, you will get much closer to the Gospel message…. his resurrection is not so much a miracle that we can argue about, believe, or disbelieve, but an invitation to look deeper at what is always happening in the life process itself.”

It would be simplistic and wrong to say that everything will work out alright in life. There is, however, in the DNA of Easter, hope that in this life “God uses the very thing that would normally destroy you – the tragic, the sorrowful, the painful, the unjust – to transform and enlighten you.” In that, I have faith and draw hope, and I hope you can too.

Prayer: Holy God, faithful and unchanging: enlarge our minds with the knowledge of your truth, and draw us more deeply into the mystery of your love, that we may truly know you. Amen
