Bishop of Durham speaks about faith with our new year 7 students

Today we were honoured to welcome the Bishop of Durham, Paul Butler, to the academy as he led our year 7 students in their Welcome Assembly.

The assembly is one of the ways in which we formally introduce our new students to the academy and our core values. The students all listened with interest to the Bishop as he spoke to them about the importance of making the most of a fresh start, detailing his own experiences of moving schools and meeting new people. He posed important questions such as ‘what kind of friend do you want to be?’, ‘who do you want to be friends with?’ and ‘what kind of person do you want to be?’

Bishop Paul, pictured above with our chaplaincy team and academy principal Mr Brailsford, also offered a fascinating insight into his own journey to finding faith and becoming a follower of Jesus.

Students also heard from Mr Brailsford about why our ARCH values are so important and what they mean to us as an academy, together with academy chaplain Mr McKibbin speaking about hope. Our new head boy and head girl also provided readings and prayers.

We thank the Bishop for joining us and to our chaplaincy team for getting our students moving, singing and joining in with the celebrations of faith!
