On Tuesday 30 April 2019, year 9 students experienced a day of crime prevention and awareness workshops delivered by ‘Prison, Me? No Way!’ Staff, volunteers and ex-prisoners who led the sessions had extensive experience of the criminal justice system from various perspectives and all activities were focused on turning students away from crime and its consequences.
Students enjoyed workshops from the fire and rescue service, learned about safe relationships and drug awareness, amongst others. It was particularly interesting to see a true to size prison cell reflecting inmates’ living conditions and learning about how prison affects the offender and their families.
We were proud of year 9 for responding sensibly and maturely to difficult and sometimes harrowing themes. They exemplified our value of respect throughout the day and further developed their own sense of individual social responsibility. Our thanks to everyone who was involved in the day.
