National’s own elves and the shoemaker

Months of preparation have paid off for one National student and a member of our alumni, who have recently picked up an award together from Nottingham City Council for the best Christmas window display in Bulwell.

Year 9 student Evangeline and older sister Mischa, who left the academy earlier this year, are the fifth generation in the family business, Foster’s Shoe Repairs – established in 1888.  Together they came up with the idea to decorate their shop window in a ‘gingerbread house’ theme for the festive period.

They worked hard over months to develop the theme and dress the shop with handmade decorations many of which looked like real sweets. The girls, who work in the shop during holidays and at weekends, entered the cobblers into the Bulwell Christmas shop window display competition and won!

Evangeline proudly collected the trophy for best window display on stage last week at an event for the competition winners. The two girls can be seen in the picture outside the shop with their award.

Well done to both Evangeline and Mischa for their hard work, creativity and this fabulous achievement!
