Yesterday a large group of students had a fantastic opportunity to support their GCSE drama studies as they watched ‘Noughts and Crosses’ at Derby Theatre.
The play, adapted from the Malorie Blackman novel, is a story of segregation, insurrection and political violence, with powerful performances and symbolism throughout.
Year 11 student Chloe said of the play, ‘It was a really eye-opening and impactful look at how different people from different backgrounds can become oppressed and divisions emerge between them. The story was very powerful and thought-provoking, sparking a lot of conversation on the coach home – it gave me the opportunity to consider the world in which we live from a completely different perspective. ‘
Thanks to Mrs Chambers, Mrs Case and Mr Walton for accompanying the 38 students – all behaved impeccably and represented the academy brilliantly with excellent manners.
