During December 2019, our year 11 footballers continued their County Cup campaign with a third-round tie away at Magnus Church of England Academy in Newark.
The boys were high on confidence going into the game following back to back home wins, and on a pitch suited to National’s passing game, the team were anticipating a positive performance.
Despite missing an early penalty courtesy of a good save by the Magnus ‘keeper, National started to dominate the game quite quickly and raced into a commanding lead before half-time. Corey bagged a brace with two goals of high quality, with Toby stabbing home the second of the game and Jack also tapping home from close range.
A strong display in attack and defence saw National leading 4-0 at half-time, and it was now all about seeing the game out. Magnus were given some hope with a defensive error allowing them to pull a goal back early in the second half, but Joe soon scored a breakway goal to restore the four goal cushion, and then normality resumed. Two more goals from the National boys, one from Joel and a hat-trick goal from Corey saw them finish the match with a comfortable 7-1 victory.
The results sees us safely into the quarter finals, and with confidence soaring, we look forward to seeing how far the boys can go. Well done to all the squad, and to our staff for their support and guidance.
