Year 9 footballers compete in (a very wet!) County Cup final

13 June 2019

This evening our talented year 9 girls football team competed in the Nottinghamshire Schools FA County Cup Final, taking on Arnold Hill Academy at the Poplars Sports Ground, Burton Joyce.

In very wet conditions, the first half was a washout for the National girls as despite a lot of pressure and goalmouth action, they conceded two very special long-range goals and another scrappy strike to trail 3-0 at the break.

At half-time, Miss Hall reminded the girls of just how far they’ve come as a team and the fabulous performances that have got them to this stage of the competition – this did the trick, as the second half was a much different contest. The team rallied and played some scintillating football, pulling the score back to 3-2 with two strikes from Charlotte, one a fine solo effort and the other following some slick teamwork and passing.

As National pushed for a last-minute equaliser they were hit on the break, conceding a goal that sealed the win for Arnold Hill, with the score finishing 4-2.

The girls can be very proud of reaching this stage once again, and today they played out an entertaining and sporting final against a very strong side. Well done to all players for your involvement this season, and we look forward to seeing your progress next year.
