    • Community Collection for Ukrainian Refugees in Poland

      Published 08/03/22

We are supporting the #SLEEP1000 campaign to supply 1000 sleeping bags and thermal blankets to a team in Krakow who are co-ordinating efforts to accommodate the refugees arriving in their city from the conflict in Ukraine.

The main requirements are sleeping bags and blankets, unused and good quality, for either adults or children.

      Other items urgently required are:

      • Torches (with batteries or USB rechargeable) - (used or new)
      • Medical Dressings & Bandages
      • Thermos Flasks (used or new)
      • Formula Milk (supplies are short)

We will be collecting from tomorrow, Wednesday 9th March, until Friday 18th March. Please leave donations in the marked area outside main reception. Students can leave their donations before school, and our school gates will be open for community drop offs between 9am and 3pm.

Please do not send toys or clothes as these are no longer required. The team in Krakow do not have room to store non-urgent items as they are prioritising using the space to house refugees.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by conflict.

      Yours sincerely,

      Mr M Brailsford – Headteacher

Mrs K Wall – Assistant Headteacher

    • Urgent face coverings update from Mr Brailsford

      Published 19/01/22

Please be aware that this message has two different dates and reading the message in full is vital.

As of Thursday 20th January 2022, face coverings will no longer be required in classrooms and teaching spaces at National. This was a temporary measure and the government no longer recommend they are worn in classrooms or teaching spaces. The DFE have contacted us today with this announcement. If students or staff still wish to wear face coverings then they may and we are comfortable with allowing an individual to decide but it is not a requirement. Due to the efforts of our community, student infection numbers are extremely low and staffing has been at its strongest since September for the last 2 weeks. Please note – students and staff are still required to wear a face covering in communal areas and corridors unless exempt. This is a requirement of our risk assessment which must be followed.

As of Thursday 27th January 2022, face coverings in communal areas and corridors will no longer be a requirement at National. The government have said from that date it will no longer be a recommendation. From this date we will still allow individuals to choose if they wish to wear a face covering or not in communal areas and corridors. Please note – until Thursday January 27th, face coverings are still expected to be worn in all communal areas and corridors unless exempt. If they are not, individuals are breaking our risk assessment which everyone on site, unless exempt, is required to follow.

The academy reviews the COVID situation and risk assessment on a regular basis and may reintroduce specific measures at a later date if required.

Thank you for your support in advance.

      Mr M Brailsford

      Headteacher

    • Half Term Updates

      Published 15/10/21

      Dear parents/guardians,

We have had a great half-term in so many different ways and managed to keep all year groups in school and avoid having to rely on remote learning. Sadly some schools have already had to ask some year groups to study from home. It was around 2 weeks ago we started to see a slight increase in the number of positive cases from students and we hope that after half-term we can keep our numbers relatively low as we head towards Christmas. We know from our experiences last year that the colder months were particularly challenging. We have already reviewed our risk assessment and will do so again in November. If there are any changes we will of course let you know.
